Therapy Intensives
Some people have more success doing trauma-tocused therapy all at once rather than doing it bit by bit each week. Intensive sessions can bring relief taster. Unlike shorter weekly sessions, intensives last at least 3 hours.
Advantages of Intensive Therapy
It has been found that when clients are prepared and ready, faster recovery is possible with intensive sessions compared with weekly sessions.
Intensive therapy modality, which can include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) or Progressive Counting Therapy as its main trauma-focused therapy tool, has the advantage that it allows us time to fully explore and progress in therapy.
- We can avoid situations where time runs out and the trauma resolution is interrupted.
- It eliminates the time spent on the initial check-in and getting settled.
- It reduces the time spent on the final calming exercises you do every session in weekly therapy.
These advantages allow trauma reprocessing in intensive sessions to be more comprehensive and impactful. Find out more about the benefit of the Intensive approach and The Economic Value Of Intensive Trauma Therapy, written by Dr. Ricky Greenwald, the director of the Trauma Institute and researcher on the intensive method.
The intensive schedule can be a half-day (9 am to 12 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm with breaks as needed per day), a full-day (typically 9 am to 4 pm with a 60-minute lunch break and additional breaks as needed per day) for 3-5 days depending on your needs.
Adjunct Therapy
Do you have a strong relationship with your current therapist, but feel like you’ve hit a plateau in your healing?
Getting “Unstuck” In Therapy
Sometimes we gain valuable insight in therapy but continue to find ourselves stuck in the same emotional patterns. Trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR can help address the unprocessed experiences that may be contributing to those patterns.
I am happy to collaborate with your primary therapist and provide short-term adjunct therapy focused on trauma healing through EMDR and other memory reprocessing approaches.
Because EMDR is a structured therapy, sessions are often more focused than traditional talk therapy. We may spend time identifying treatment targets, building resources, preparing for trauma reprocessing, or actively processing memories.
At the same time, trauma healing is not separate from everyday life. Stressful events, relationship conflicts, losses, disappointments, and moments of vulnerability often provide important information about what is happening beneath the surface. Sometimes the most therapeutic use of a session is not moving ahead with a treatment plan, but slowing down and making space for what is hurting right now.
In my experience, effective trauma therapy requires both structure and flexibility. While we may have a clear treatment goal, I strive to remain attentive to what feels most important and emotionally present for you in each session. Attending to today’s pain is often part of trauma healing—not a detour from it.
Some clients choose to continue seeing their primary therapist while working with me. Others receive all of their care through my practice. Together, we can determine what level of support will best meet your needs and help you move toward your goals.
Clinical Supervision & EMDR Consultation
As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and EMDRIA-approved Consultant-in-Training (CIT), I offer clinical supervision and EMDR consultation for therapists seeking support with trauma-focused treatment, case conceptualization, and professional growth.
Becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW) or EMDRIA certified therapist
My approach is collaborative, practical, and relational, with particular expertise in trauma, dissociation, attachment, and memory reprocessing therapies. I especially enjoy supporting clinicians who work with multicultural, international, immigrant, and cross-cultural populations, as well as those navigating clinical work across Japanese and Western contexts.
Consultation is available for individuals and small groups.
As an EMDRIA-approved Consultant-in-Training (CIT), I am pleased to offer EMDR consultation at a reduced fee to clinicians accepted into the UPSIDE Program. Information on how to apply for the program can be found here.
I recognize that access to high-quality supervision and consultation is not always equitable. When possible, I offer reduced-fee consultation for psychotherapy trainees, early-career clinicians, and healthcare professionals who hold marginalized identities. If cost is a barrier, I welcome a conversation about available options.
